Words from the Museum Director

Anhui is propitious for giving birth to great men. It enjoys a long history and an abundance of cultural remains and is one of the biggest provinces with a large number of cultural relics. For this reason, the Anhui Museum boasts rich collections of cultural relics. From paleontological fossils in the Cretaceous Period to the cultural relics in the Paleolithic Period and the Neolithic Period, from bronze ware, ceramics, jade, inscriptions on bronzes and stone tablets, calligraphy and paintings, four treasures of the study, “Three Carvings” of brick, stone and wood carvings, ancient books since the Shang and Zhou dynasties to the historic and cultural relics and famous calligraphy and paintings of the modern times, we all have a mass of collections. All of these objects are of high historic, scientific and artistic value with distinct local features. To give full play of the cultural relics' value by providing a more open way of display and let the audience have more access to the long-hidden cultural relics and the Anhui civilization be known by the world, the Internet is no doubt the best choice for us. Our website is a fluid museum, for here, the solidified history is combined with fluid information. The network also makes communication within different time and space possible. It is our goal to make the history nearer to the audience, the civilization closer and the culture carried on.

The Anhui Museum has an honorable history. On September 17, 1958, Chairman Mao Zedong made an inspection of the Anhui Museum. It is in the Anhui Museum that he made such an important instruction that exerted an influence on the development of all museums’ construction and development in China, “The main cities of a province, should have such a museum and it is important to let the people know their own history and power of creation.” Now, the new museum, located beside the Swan Lake in the New Municipal and Cultural District of Hefei, has been open to the public. It is confronted with a new historic opportunity for development.

Through the Internet, we not only pass on cultural knowledge and information on cultural relics, but also demonstrate our wide vision, persevering accumulation, enthusiasm and friendliness to make friends with people both at home and abroad, and especially our confidence and determination to carry on the ancient civilization of Anhui and make it shine with new bright lights.
