Zhu Da was known for his painting and he was also a famous calligrapher. He learned calligraphy not from a single person, but from all the masters ever since the Jin and the Tang Dynasties, and was influenced by Dong Qichang most. He studied from the ancient masters but was not bound by them, therefore, he could shape his own style— fresh but vigorous. This calligraphy was the work in his later years, with his colophon “Ba Da Shanren”.
