The plate has foliated edge, slightly sloping side and a circular base with fine sandy clay. There are three layers of decoration on the interior plate. On the plate bottom is the grape pattern, on the wall, interlocking flower pattern and on the rim, crested wave pattern. There are also interlocking flower pattern on the exterior plate. All the patterns are dense but well-arranged. At the bottom side inscribed “ No.8 of Xu” with ink. The blue materials used are “Sumani blue”, which contains rich amount of iron and shows iron-brown color at the place where the glaze is gathered. Therefore the blue glaze not only gives a sense of unevenness but also create a bright and beautiful visual effect in contrast with the white background. The Yongle Reign in Ming dynasty is the golden age of Chinese blue and white porcelain production. With a perfect shape, the foliated-edge plate is a typical representative of the period.
