The Scroll of Abhidharma-dharmaskandha Pada Sastra in Jinsu Mountain Tripitaka Collection,First Volume

Each piece of paper is 60 cm long and is framed by red and thin column lines. In the middle of it is inscribed a red rectangular seal “Jinsushan Satru Paper”. Jinsushan (Guanghui Buddha hall in Haiyan county, Zhejiang province) Satru Paper was a famous and unique paper product in Song dynasty which was made in the period from the year of Xining to the year of Yuanfeng (1068-1085), and the paper workshop was Chenttian Temple in Suzhou. The paper is processed by the bark of paper mulberry trees and is specially used for the temple to write scriptures. Waxing and calendaring make the paper hard and medical materials make it yellow. It is very precious due to its thickness, its smoothness and its durability. The process of waxing both sides of the paper and then calendaring them is the technique created in Song dynasty. Different from that of Tang dynasty, when paper was only waxed to make them smooth and beautiful, the technique of Song dynasty makes the paper excellent for writing. After about one thousand years, the paper is still hard and brilliant and the ink on it is still as black and fresh as it was.
