The art of brick carving is rich and colorful. This Ridge Decoration stand on top of the roof and serve as a lightning arrester. The Huizhou people wore something similar to a steel needle through its nose, which looked like a beard from a distance, and then connected it to the ground. It was a simple lightning rod. Ao is always known is one of the nine children of the dragon. Meanwhile, it also places people's expectations for a better future. In the imperial examination period, the No.1 scholar of the Palace Examination would receive the emperor’s list on the stone steps of the palace, on which Ao is carved. Therefore, to be No. 1 in the imperial examination is thus connected with Ao. This ridge decoration is traditionally used to prevent fire and disasters. Because it is placed on top of the roof, it also contains hope that the progeny of the family may get to the top in the imperial examination.
