Dates:Qing Dynasty
Size:Width 28.5cm, Length 100cm
The family name of Kuncan (1612-1692) was Liu, and Kuncan was his dharma name after he became a monk. His courtesy name was Jieqiu, and art name was Shixi or Shidaoren. He was skilled in landscape painting and based his style on that of Wang Meng. His paintings were complicated but well-proportioned and profound.
The landscape on this painting is deep red and in full composition. The mountains are towering and rolling while the plants are flourishing,a deep and quiet scene. On the upper left of the painting is a seven-syllable verse and an annotation in running script written by Kuncan, which was followed by a signature “By Shidaoren in April, the year of Dingwei”.
