Ivory inlay is a kind of inlaid technique of lacquerware, of which the ivory is polished in advance. The characters inlaid in this brush pot are running scripts and they are part of a poem by Dong Qichang, a painter as well as calligrapher in Ming Dynasty. Inscribed on the pot base are six characters — “Someone named Xian in Wangu room”. The calligraphy on the pot is fresh and bright, while the style of the pot is simple and elegant.
