Gong You is a bronze drinking vessel with phoenix designs. Its body is covered by gorgeous and smart designs. Its neck is decorated with Kui (a one-legged monster in fable) patterns. Cicada patterns are carved on the handles with animal head-shaped embossment. The cover and belly parts are covered by symmetrical phoenix designs. The birds turn their heads backward with their crests crossing. The implement looks similar to the implements of its kind discovered in the Central Plains in terms of shape and design. But you can find that it is of unique style through careful observation. Look at the phoenix patterns. Although the two birds face each other, their crests cross with each other instead of drooping independently. That makes the bird patterns more vivid and dynamic. There are the same ten-character inscriptions on the cover and the bottom of the implement, which literally mean “Master made this wine vessel for the permanent use by his descendants”. This is a rare precious bronze artwork.
